Human Gene AK6 (uc003jwa.3)
  Description: Homo sapiens AK6 RNA polymerase II, TATA box binding protein (TBP)-associated factor, 32kDa (AK6), transcript variant 2, mRNA.
RefSeq Summary (NM_016283): This gene encodes a protein that belongs to the adenylate kinase family of enzymes. The protein has a nuclear localization and contains Walker A (P-loop) and Walker B motifs and a metal-coordinating residue. The protein may be involved in regulation of Cajal body formation. In human, AK6 and TAF9 (GeneID: 6880) are two distinct genes that share 5' exons. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2013].

  ID: KAD6_HUMAN
DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Adenylate kinase isoenzyme 6; EC=2.7.4.3; AltName: Full=ATP-AMP transphosphorylase 6; AltName: Full=Coilin-interacting nuclear ATPase protein; Short=hCINAP;
FUNCTION: Broad activity as an NMP kinase. AMP and dAMP are the preferred substrates of all tested NMPs, but CMP and dCMP are also good substrates. IMP can be phosphorylated, but to a much lesser extent. Adenylate and cytidylate can serve as phosphate acceptors.
CATALYTIC ACTIVITY: ATP + AMP = 2 ADP.
BIOPHYSICOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES: Kinetic parameters: KM=75.3 uM for ATP; Vmax=1.27 umol/min/mg enzyme;
SUBUNIT: Interacts with COIL (via C-terminus).
INTERACTION: P38432:COIL; NbExp=5; IntAct=EBI-2896123, EBI-945751;
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus, nucleoplasm. Nucleus, Cajal body. Note=Displays widespread diffuse nucleoplasmic distribution but not detected in nucleoli. Detected in Cajal bodies but not in all cells.
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the adenylate kinase family. AK6 subfamily.

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.

-  Orthologous Genes in Other Species
  Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
