Human Gene MED19 (ENST00000337672.9) from GENCODE V44
  Description: Homo sapiens mediator complex subunit 19 (MED19), transcript variant 2, mRNA. (from RefSeq NM_153450)
RefSeq Summary (NM_153450): The protein encoded by this gene is a subunit of the Mediator complex, which binds to gene-specific regulatory factors and provides support for the basal RNA polymerase II transcription machinery. This gene has been implicated in the growth of several types of cancer, and inhibition of its expression inhibits the growth and spread of these cancers. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2015].

DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Mediator of RNA polymerase II transcription subunit 19; AltName: Full=Lung cancer metastasis-related protein 1; AltName: Full=Mediator complex subunit 19;
FUNCTION: Component of the Mediator complex, a coactivator involved in the regulated transcription of nearly all RNA polymerase II-dependent genes. Mediator functions as a bridge to convey information from gene-specific regulatory proteins to the basal RNA polymerase II transcription machinery. Mediator is recruited to promoters by direct interactions with regulatory proteins and serves as a scaffold for the assembly of a functional preinitiation complex with RNA polymerase II and the general transcription factors.
SUBUNIT: Component of the Mediator complex, which is composed of MED1, MED4, MED6, MED7, MED8, MED9, MED10, MED11, MED12, MED13, MED13L, MED14, MED15, MED16, MED17, MED18, MED19, MED20, MED21, MED22, MED23, MED24, MED25, MED26, MED27, MED29, MED30, MED31, CCNC, CDK8 and CDC2L6/CDK11. The MED12, MED13, CCNC and CDK8 subunits form a distinct module termed the CDK8 module. Mediator containing the CDK8 module is less active than Mediator lacking this module in supporting transcriptional activation. Individual preparations of the Mediator complex lacking one or more distinct subunits have been variously termed ARC, CRSP, DRIP, PC2, SMCC and TRAP.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus (Probable).
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the Mediator complex subunit 19 family.
SEQUENCE CAUTION: Sequence=AAN16075.1; Type=Erroneous initiation;

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.

-  Orthologous Genes in Other Species
  Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
