Human Gene NARF (ENST00000390006.8) from GENCODE V44
Description: Homo sapiens nuclear prelamin A recognition factor (NARF), transcript variant 3, mRNA. (from RefSeq NM_001038618) RefSeq Summary (NM_001038618): Several proteins have been found to be prenylated and methylated at their carboxyl-terminal ends. Prenylation was initially believed to be important only for membrane attachment. However, another role for prenylation appears to be its importance in protein-protein interactions. The only nuclear proteins known to be prenylated in mammalian cells are prelamin A- and B-type lamins. Prelamin A is farnesylated and carboxymethylated on the cysteine residue of a carboxyl-terminal CaaX motif. This post-translationally modified cysteine residue is removed from prelamin A when it is endoproteolytically processed into mature lamin A. The protein encoded by this gene binds to the prenylated prelamin A carboxyl-terminal tail domain. It may be a component of a prelamin A endoprotease complex. The encoded protein is located in the nucleus, where it partially colocalizes with the nuclear lamina. It shares limited sequence similarity with iron-only bacterial hydrogenases. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene, including one with a novel exon that is generated by RNA editing. ID:NARF_HUMAN DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Nuclear prelamin A recognition factor; AltName: Full=Iron-only hydrogenase-like protein 2; Short=IOP2; SUBUNIT: Interacts with LMNA and binds to the farnesylated C- terminal domain. SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus. TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Ubiquitous. Predominantly expressed in skeletal muscle, heart and brain. PTM: Phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR. SIMILARITY: Belongs to the NARF family.
The RNAfold program from the Vienna RNA Package is used to perform the secondary structure predictions and folding calculations. The estimated folding energy is in kcal/mol. The more negative the energy, the more secondary structure the RNA is likely to have.
Pfam Domains: PF02906 - Iron only hydrogenase large subunit, C-terminal domain PF02256 - Iron hydrogenase small subunit

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.
Orthologous Genes in Other Species
Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
