Human Gene MCAT (ENST00000327555.5) from GENCODE V44
  Description: Homo sapiens malonyl-CoA-acyl carrier protein transacylase (MCAT), transcript variant 3, non-coding RNA. (from RefSeq NR_046423)
RefSeq Summary (NM_014507): The protein encoded by this gene is found exclusively in the mitochondrion, where it catalyzes the transfer of a malonyl group from malonyl-CoA to the mitochondrial acyl carrier protein. The encoded protein may be part of a fatty acid synthase complex that is more like the type II prokaryotic and plastid complexes rather than the type I human cytosolic complex. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2012].

-  Comments and Description Text from UniProtKB
  ID: FABD_HUMAN
DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Malonyl-CoA-acyl carrier protein transacylase, mitochondrial; Short=MCT; EC=2.3.1.39; AltName: Full=Mitochondrial malonyl CoA:ACP acyltransferase; AltName: Full=Mitochondrial malonyltransferase; AltName: Full=[Acyl-carrier-protein] malonyltransferase; Flags: Precursor;
FUNCTION: Catalyzes the transfer of a malonyl moiety from malonyl- CoA to the free thiol group of the phosphopantetheine arm of the mitochondrial ACP protein (NDUFAB1). This suggests the existence of the biosynthesis of fatty acids in mitochondrias.
CATALYTIC ACTIVITY: Malonyl-CoA + [acyl-carrier-protein] = CoA + malonyl-[acyl-carrier-protein].
PATHWAY: Lipid metabolism; fatty acid biosynthesis.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Mitochondrion.
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the type II malonyltransferase family.

The RNAfold program from the Vienna RNA Package is used to perform the secondary structure predictions and folding calculations. The estimated folding energy is in kcal/mol. The more negative the energy, the more secondary structure the RNA is likely to have.

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.

-  Orthologous Genes in Other Species
  Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
