Description: Homo sapiens RBMX like 1 (RBMXL1), transcript variant 2, mRNA. (from RefSeq NM_019610) RefSeq Summary (NM_019610): This gene represents a retrogene of RNA binding motif protein, X-linked (RBMX), which is located on chromosome X. While all introns in the coding sequence have been processed out compared to the RBMX locus, the ORF is intact and there is specific evidence for transcription at this location. The preservation of the ORF by purifying selection in all Old World monkeys carrying it suggests that this locus is likely to be functional, possibly during male meiosis when X chromosomal genes are silenced or during haploid stages of spermatogenesis. This gene shares 5' exon structure with the cysteine conjugate-beta lyase 2 locus on chromosome 1, but the coding sequences are non-overlapping. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2009]. ID:RMXL1_HUMAN DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=RNA binding motif protein, X-linked-like-1; AltName: Full=Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein G-like 1; Contains: RecName: Full=RNA binding motif protein, X-linked-like-1, N-terminally processed; FUNCTION: RNA-binding protein which may be involved in pre-mRNA splicing (By similarity). SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus (By similarity). MISCELLANEOUS: According to some authors, RBMXL1 is a RBMX retrogene on chromosome X which is likely to be functional (PubMed:16201836). SIMILARITY: Contains 1 RRM (RNA recognition motif) domain. CAUTION: The first non-coding exon of RBMXL1 is in common with that of CCBL2.
The RNAfold program from the Vienna RNA Package is used to perform the secondary structure predictions and folding calculations. The estimated folding energy is in kcal/mol. The more negative the energy, the more secondary structure the RNA is likely to have.
Pfam Domains: PF08081 - RBM1CTR (NUC064) family PF00076 - RNA recognition motif. (a.k.a. RRM, RBD, or RNP domain)
ModBase Predicted Comparative 3D Structure on Q96E39
The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.
Orthologous Genes in Other Species
Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
