Human Gene GPAM (ENST00000348367.9) from GENCODE V44
  Description: Homo sapiens glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase, mitochondrial (GPAM), transcript variant 2, mRNA. (from RefSeq NM_020918)
RefSeq Summary (NM_001244949): This gene encodes a mitochondrial enzyme which prefers saturated fatty acids as its substrate for the synthesis of glycerolipids. This metabolic pathway's first step is catalyzed by the encoded enzyme. Two forms for this enzyme exist, one in the mitochondria and one in the endoplasmic reticulum. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011].

  ID: GPAT1_HUMAN
DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase 1, mitochondrial; Short=GPAT-1; EC=2.3.1.15; Flags: Precursor;
FUNCTION: Esterifies acyl-group from acyl-ACP to the sn-1 position of glycerol-3-phosphate, an essential step in glycerolipid biosynthesis.
CATALYTIC ACTIVITY: Acyl-CoA + sn-glycerol 3-phosphate = CoA + 1- acyl-sn-glycerol 3-phosphate.
PATHWAY: Phospholipid metabolism; CDP-diacylglycerol biosynthesis; CDP-diacylglycerol from sn-glycerol 3-phosphate: step 1/3.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Mitochondrion outer membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein (By similarity).
DOMAIN: The HXXXXD motif is essential for acyltransferase activity and may constitute the binding site for the phosphate moiety of the glycerol-3-phosphate (By similarity).
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the GPAT/DAPAT family.

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.

-  Orthologous Genes in Other Species
  Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
