Human Gene SLC43A1 (ENST00000528450.5) from GENCODE V44
Description: Homo sapiens solute carrier family 43 member 1 (SLC43A1), transcript variant 2, mRNA. (from RefSeq NM_001198810) RefSeq Summary (NM_001198810): SLC43A1 belongs to the system L family of plasma membrane carrier proteins that transports large neutral amino acids (Babu et al., 2003 [PubMed 12930836]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008]. ID:LAT3_HUMAN DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Large neutral amino acids transporter small subunit 3; AltName: Full=L-type amino acid transporter 3; AltName: Full=Prostate cancer overexpressed gene 1 protein; AltName: Full=Solute carrier family 43 member 1; FUNCTION: Sodium-independent, high affinity transport of large neutral amino acids. Has narrower substrate selectivity compared to SLC7A5 and SLC7A8 and mainly transports branched-chain amino acids and phenylalanine. Plays a role in the development of human prostate cancer, from prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia to invasive prostate cancer. SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein (Probable). TISSUE SPECIFICITY: In adults, found in all tissues examined with highest expression in pancreas. In fetus, highest expression in liver and lower levels in kidney, and lung. High levels found in prostate cancer cells. MISCELLANEOUS: Up-regulated in early prostate cancer development with highest expression level in seminomas of testicular germ cell tumors. SIMILARITY: Belongs to the SLC43A transporter (TC 2.A.1.44) family.
The RNAfold program from the Vienna RNA Package is used to perform the secondary structure predictions and folding calculations. The estimated folding energy is in kcal/mol. The more negative the energy, the more secondary structure the RNA is likely to have.

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.
Orthologous Genes in Other Species
Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
