Human Gene LILRB5 (ENST00000345866.10) from GENCODE V44
Description: Homo sapiens leukocyte immunoglobulin like receptor B5 (LILRB5), transcript variant 3, mRNA. (from RefSeq NM_001081443) RefSeq Summary (NM_001081443): This gene is a member of the leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor (LIR) family, which is found in a gene cluster at chromosomal region 19q13.4. The encoded protein belongs to the subfamily B class of LIR receptors which contain two or four extracellular immunoglobulin domains, a transmembrane domain, and two to four cytoplasmic immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs (ITIMs). Several other LIR subfamily B receptors are expressed on immune cells where they bind to MHC class I molecules on antigen-presenting cells and inhibit stimulation of an immune response. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. ID:LIRB5_HUMAN DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor subfamily B member 5; AltName: Full=CD85 antigen-like family member C; AltName: Full=Leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor 8; Short=LIR-8; AltName: CD_antigen=CD85c; Flags: Precursor; FUNCTION: May act as receptor for class I MHC antigens. SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein. TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Detected in a natural killer (NK) cells. DOMAIN: Contains 2 copies of a cytoplasmic motif that is referred to as the immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitor motif (ITIM). This motif is involved in modulation of cellular responses. The phosphorylated ITIM motif can bind the SH2 domain of several SH2- containing phosphatases. SIMILARITY: Contains 4 Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains.
The RNAfold program from the Vienna RNA Package is used to perform the secondary structure predictions and folding calculations. The estimated folding energy is in kcal/mol. The more negative the energy, the more secondary structure the RNA is likely to have.

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.
Orthologous Genes in Other Species
Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
