Human Gene LILRB5 (ENST00000345866.10) from GENCODE V44
  Description: Homo sapiens leukocyte immunoglobulin like receptor B5 (LILRB5), transcript variant 3, mRNA. (from RefSeq NM_001081443)
RefSeq Summary (NM_001081443): This gene is a member of the leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor (LIR) family, which is found in a gene cluster at chromosomal region 19q13.4. The encoded protein belongs to the subfamily B class of LIR receptors which contain two or four extracellular immunoglobulin domains, a transmembrane domain, and two to four cytoplasmic immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs (ITIMs). Several other LIR subfamily B receptors are expressed on immune cells where they bind to MHC class I molecules on antigen-presenting cells and inhibit stimulation of an immune response. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008].

  ID: LIRB5_HUMAN
DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor subfamily B member 5; AltName: Full=CD85 antigen-like family member C; AltName: Full=Leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor 8; Short=LIR-8; AltName: CD_antigen=CD85c; Flags: Precursor;
FUNCTION: May act as receptor for class I MHC antigens.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein.
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Detected in a natural killer (NK) cells.
DOMAIN: Contains 2 copies of a cytoplasmic motif that is referred to as the immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitor motif (ITIM). This motif is involved in modulation of cellular responses. The phosphorylated ITIM motif can bind the SH2 domain of several SH2- containing phosphatases.
SIMILARITY: Contains 4 Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains.

-  Orthologous Genes in Other Species
  Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
