Mouse Gene Egf (ENSMUST00000197079.4) from GENCODE VM23 Comprehensive Transcript Set (only Basic displayed by default)
Description: Mus musculus epidermal growth factor (Egf), transcript variant 2, mRNA. (from RefSeq NM_001310737)
RefSeq Summary (NM_001310737): This gene encodes epidermal growth factor (EGF), the founding member of the EGF family of growth factors that are implicated in cell proliferation and differentiation. The encoded protein can localize to the membrane and function in juxtacrine signaling or undergo proteolytic processing to generate a soluble form of the hormone. Mice lacking the encoded protein do not exhibit an abnormal phenotype but transgenic mice overexpressing the encoded protein exhibit hypospermatogenesis. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2016].

The RNAfold program from the Vienna RNA Package is used to perform the secondary structure predictions and folding calculations. The estimated folding energy is in kcal/mol. The more negative the energy, the more secondary structure the RNA is likely to have.

-  Orthologous Genes in Other Species
Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
