Human Gene EHF (ENST00000257831.8) from GENCODE V43
Description: Homo sapiens ETS homologous factor (EHF), transcript variant 20, non-coding RNA. (from RefSeq NR_165390) RefSeq Summary (NM_012153): This gene encodes a protein that belongs to an ETS transcription factor subfamily characterized by epithelial-specific expression (ESEs). The encoded protein acts as a transcriptional repressor and may be involved in epithelial differentiation and carcinogenesis. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2011]. Gencode Transcript: ENST00000257831.8 Gencode Gene: ENSG00000135373.13 Transcript (Including UTRs) Position: hg38 chr11:34,621,093-34,663,288 Size: 42,196 Total Exon Count: 9 Strand: + Coding Region Position: hg38 chr11:34,642,631-34,658,931 Size: 16,301 Coding Exon Count: 8
ID:EHF_HUMAN DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=ETS homologous factor; Short=hEHF; AltName: Full=ETS domain-containing transcription factor; AltName: Full=Epithelium-specific Ets transcription factor 3; Short=ESE-3; FUNCTION: Transcriptional activator that may play a role in regulating epithelial cell differentiation and proliferation. May act as a repressor for a specific subset of ETS/AP-1-responsive genes and as a modulator of the nuclear response to mitogen- activated protein kinase signaling cascades. Binds to DNA sequences containing the consensus nucleotide core sequence GGAA. Involved in regulation of TNFRSF10B/DR5 expression through Ets- binding sequences on the TNFRSF10B/DR5 promoter. May contribute to development and carcinogenesis by acting as a tumor suppressor gene or anti-oncogene. SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus. TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed exclusively in tissues with a high content of epithelial cells. Highly expressed in salivary gland, mammary gland, prostate, and lung. Weakly expressed in kidney and colon. Not detected in heart, brain, placenta, liver, skeletal muscle, spleen, thymus, testis, ovary, small intestine or peripheral blood leukocytes. INDUCTION: By IL1B/interleukin-1 beta and TNF in bronchial smooth muscle cells and fibroblasts. By IL10/interleukin-10 and IFNG/IFN- gamma in monocyte-derived dendritic cells. DOMAIN: The PNT domain acts as a transcriptional activator (By similarity). SIMILARITY: Belongs to the ETS family. SIMILARITY: Contains 1 ETS DNA-binding domain. SIMILARITY: Contains 1 PNT (pointed) domain.
The RNAfold program from the Vienna RNA Package is used to perform the secondary structure predictions and folding calculations. The estimated folding energy is in kcal/mol. The more negative the energy, the more secondary structure the RNA is likely to have.

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.
Orthologous Genes in Other Species
Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
